The University of Tennessee: Rocky Top Traditions

The Tennessee Volunteers football program boasts a proud and passionate history, celebrated in one of the sport's largest and loudest venues, Neyland Stadium. With traditions like the orange and white checkerboard end zones and the "Vol Navy," the program holds a special place in the culture of the SEC.

General Bob Neyland built the foundation of Tennessee football on suffocating defense. His teams dominated the early days of the conference, winning four national championships. His 1939 squad achieved the incredible feat of finishing the regular season unscored upon.

That tradition of greatness produced some of the sport's most legendary players, including defensive lineman Reggie White and iconic quarterback Peyton Manning.

In the modern era, coach Phillip Fulmer returned the Volunteers to the pinnacle of the sport, guiding the 1998 team to the first-ever BCS National Championship. This rich history gives the Volunteers a storied place in college football history. 🏈
